Identifying Trends in 311 Calls & Enabling Custom E-Alerts
Think of this as a Google Alert system for 311 calls. Users would log in and set up their alert preferences based on the community where they live or issues that they care about. The tool would analyze trends in 311 calls by issue area/compliant, looking for dramatic changes over time -- notifying users when appropriate. For example, if I'm worried about rats in my neighborhood, I might hypothetically want to be notified anytime the number of rat or sanitation complaints in zip code 11238 exceeds 100 complaints in a week or increases dramatically. The tool would use open source data that is updated daily at https://nycopendata.socrata.com/Social-Services/311-Service-Requests-from-2010-to-Present/erm2-nwe9 and would also ideally allow uses to just browse through the trend analysis.
